Hi from Dr. Nichols

Dr. Shana Nichols is a licensed clinical psychologist and researcher who has worked in the field of autism spectrum disorder for over 20 years. She specializes in ASD and social learning difficulties, anxiety, and meeting the challenges of life transitions. Within her work with individuals with ASD, areas of particular interest include the challenges and experiences of females with ASD, growing up and adolescence, sexuality, gender and relationships, dual diagnosis and mental health interventions, and equine-assisted psychotherapy.

Dr. Nichols has extensive expertise in cognitive and diagnostic assessment, treatment, consultation, and training. She conducts applied research associated with her clinical programming and collaborates with colleagues in Canada on an adult ASD and sexuality research program.

 



Dr. Nichols is the lead author of Girls Growing Up on the Autism Spectrum and is a co-author of the set of therapeutic manuals Fighting Worries and Facing Fears: A Coping Manual for Children with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder and Their Families.

Dr. Nichols is a sought-after speaker at conferences both locally and internationally and speaks on topics related to autism spectrum disorder such as assessment and intervention for females, mental health and psychotherapy, adolescence and growing up, sexuality, relationships and abuse prevention, and diagnostic assessment for adults and bright individuals. Her dynamic teaching style includes the use of small groups, video segments, and practice exercises that demonstrate the essential skills for achieving the course objectives in school, clinical, and professional environments. When not writing, speaking at conferences, and working with clients and families, Dr. Nichols pursues her other interests including competitive horseback riding, reading, and photography.

- Individual psychotherapy in Huntington, NY or via telehealth for clients who live in NY, CO, MO, IA 
- Specialty consultations related to review of individualized programs and areas outlined above 
- Consultation for forensic cases 
- Workshops, trainings and presentations at conferences, for school districts, professionals, and other organizations

Dr. Nichols is licensed to practice in the states of New York, Colorado, Missouri and Iowa. Tele-consultation and therapy via an online HIPAA compliant platform is available for clients in all states in which Dr. Nichols is licensed.
